International Men’s Day in the UK on Monday 19th November 2012 is a fantastic opportunity for you to:

  • Have some serious fun
  • Highlight some serious issues
  • Celebrate Britain’s men and boys in all their hairy diversity

International Men’s Day (IMD) is a global day of observance held every year in more than 60 countries around the globe.

In the UK, we are in the process of becoming the first country in the world to establish a charitable organiation to oversee the growth and development of the day.

IMD is a global grassroots movement that invites every man, woman, girl and boy in the world to come together and celebrate men and boys in all their diversity.

IMD recognizes that there are a broad variety of laws, values and viewpoints around the world that affect different men, in different countries in different ways. There is also a diversity of opinions about those laws, values and viewpoints which are held by the many different men, women, girls and boys throughout the world.

As a day of observance IMD places its focus on that which unites humanity- giving everyone who wants to celebrate International Men’s Day the opportunity to help work towards IMD’s shared objectives which are applied equally to men and boys irrespective of their age, ability, social background, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, religious belief and relationship status.

Those objectives are:

  • To promote male role models
  • To celebrate the contribution that men make
  • To focus on men’s health and wellbeing
  • To highlight discrimination against men the inequalities that men and boys face
  • To improve gender relations and promote gender equality
  • To create a safer world for everyone

In the UK, the national co-ordinator for International Men’s Day is currently The Men’s Network in Brighton & Hove who will be pass this responsibility onto the IMD UK charity once it has been established.

In the meantime The Men’s Network invites everyone in the UK to mark International Men’s Day in 2012 and celebrate the difference that men make in all our lives.
